Creating your own podcast or audio documentary series can be a big undertaking if you're new to the to it. Below are a few commonly asked questions that may help shed some light on the process.
How long will it take to record my podcast/audio documentary?
This is the most common question we receive. Unfortunately there's no simple answer. Podcasts can be as long or short as you choose. Because of this podcast creators will often have varying lengths depending on the content they want to include in each episode. However, If you're new to podcasting and plan on creating a new series from scratch, it is a good rule of thumb to start with half-hour episodes. So if you were to book a three hour session, you could potentially record multiple episodes in one sitting, or just one if it is an involved setup with lots of specific content you want to include.
How long will post production take?
Just like recording, this process can be quick and simple, or very involved depending on what you're looking to achieve. For instance; if your podcast is more free-form speaking and you would like it to have an "off the cuff" feel, then you would only need minimal editing. This can be done fairly quick and efficient and can usually be completed at the end of a recording session. However, if you are putting together content that is more comprehensive, contains multiple sources and/or media files, and you have detailed dialog, then the process can take far longer.
I would like to edit and mix my home recorded podcast with The Podcast Service, what files should I bring in with me?
We can work with most file types: WAV, AIFF, Mp3, AAC. When possible a .wav file is preferred as it allows us to work with a high quality lossless file for editing/mixing, then export it to the deliverable format using our software algorithm.
I need to record my podcast/documentary/interview on location. Do you offer location recording services?
Yes we do. We quote on a "per job" basis depending on what equipment and personnel is needed. Feel free to contact us and discuss the details.
Can we integrate skype calls into our podcast?
Sure, we can integrate Skype calls directly into the recording. We have a hardwired Lan connection available at the studio so as long as the caller has a good mic and a strong internet connection, the call will be high quality.
